Artist Statement/Bio
While growing up in Somerset County, NJ, I was always aware I had some type of creative streak, because I loved to paint anything to bring color into my living space. Even though I pursued two Bachelor degrees in Science and Business from Kean and Rowan Universities my passion of working with color and creativity was evident in my colorful financial reports I delivered in my corporate job.
After spending many years in the corporate world, I am at the perfect time in my life now to study art at the Center of Contemporary Art in Bedminster, NJ. I am now taking my lifetime of self-taught painting skills into a career to paint large scale art works emphasizing color.
- WHY TO I MAKE MY ART?
In the flow of creating my art, it takes me to a sense of being that is me, there I am totally myself. My art seems to be an extension of myself, my thoughts, my sight. I don’t think that I am escaping from my other tasks at hand, it’s more of a way to sort out my issues of the day. There is something about mixing the paint colors together that brings me joy. Applying the colors mono-chromatically or in contract then afflicts a feeling inside me as if I am speaking words, but yet the emotion is what I need to process.
- WHAT DRIVES ME TO CREATE?
When creating my art I can work long hours being passionately focused. It's strange to me that I can be so driven creativity making something and yet other tasks are so meaningless to me. There is a great reward in painting.
- WHY PEOPLE SHOULD CARE?
My paintings are a representation of how everything is interconnected. We all humans have gone thru unpleasant experiences, some grievous losses and as well as great periods of joy; my paintings speaks to the hearts of all have seen the flow and the interconnectedness to people and things.
- WHAT SIGNIFIES THE SWIRL PAINTINGS?
This swirl period is when I was going thru a tumultuous period when my son passed away at 26 years old; being broken hearted.
